Transitioning Home

Comfort Keepers In-Home Care in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Importance of Post Hospital Home Care

Keep an Eye on Your Loved One

After a visit to the hospital, whether it is for surgery or because of an emergency, seniors need to recuperate in a relaxing environment. Comfort Keepers® provides home care for seniors after a hospital visit to help them transition from hospital to home care.

Often, seniors have to be readmitted to the hospital when they don’t receive the care they need after surgery. They go home and think, “I will be fine; I can take care of myself.” However, there can often be issues with post-surgery recovery without home care. Comfort Keepers® is working with hospitals to set up transitional care for seniors to prevent re-admittance.

Some post-hospital home care tasks are focused on:

  • Assuring hydration throughout the day
  • Making sure they receive proper nutrition
  • Managing medication as directed by doctors and health care providers

Recognize When Help is Needed

Many times, adult children don’t recognize when seniors need post-hospital home care. They see their parents as strong individuals who can take care of themselves, but in reality, they tend to be more fragile and need more assistance than adult children have a tendency to realize. Accepting the fact that your loved one may need post-hospital home care will make their recovery smoother and more comfortable.

One senior raves about home care after being in the hospital: “There’s something really relaxing about knowing someone is there to take care of you. You can completely recuperate when someone is there and 100% concentrated on helping you get well.”
